A retaining wall is only as good as what's underneath and behind it. We plan every wall around your site's levels, soil and drainage, then build it with the right footings and post depths so it stays straight and keeps doing its job.
Concrete sleeper walls
Our most popular option. We use concrete sleepers made to AS 4678 with galvanised steel posts, in smooth or textured finishes. They're a long-lasting choice for boundary walls, terraced gardens and levelling a sloping yard. See our materials for finishes and warranty details.
Timber retaining walls
A warmer, natural look in treated pine or hardwood that suits gardens and lower walls. We build timber retaining walls up to a maximum of 600 mm high. Above that, concrete sleepers are the better long-term option. See our materials for more.
Composite retaining walls
Composite sleepers are now available as an alternative to timber. Ask us about the colours and finishes available for your project.
Walls on tight and sloping sites
Many of our walls are on hard-to-reach blocks: narrow side access, steep slopes or existing structures close by. Our compact machine lets us dig footings and move soil precisely in confined spaces. Read more about our excavation work.
Do I need council approval?
While each council region has slightly different requirements, across Queensland a building approval and engineering is generally required if the wall:
- Exceeds 1.0 metre in height.
- Is within 1.5 metres of a building, boundary or another retaining wall.
- Carries extra weight or surcharge loads, such as a driveway, parking area, structure, or a fence adding wind or structural load.
- Is part of a swimming pool barrier or sits on a waterfront or watercourse boundary.
- Crosses over or sits too close to sewer or stormwater services.
We'll let you know whether approval is commonly needed for your wall before any work begins.
