Fencing and gates on the Gold Coast & South Brisbane

Colorbond and timber boundary and privacy fencing, set out accurately and installed with the right footing depth so it stays straight.

New Monument Colorbond boundary fence along a backyard in Ormeau

A good fence comes down to the set-out and the footings. We take care with alignment, levels and post depth so your fence looks straight from day one and stays that way.

Colorbond fencing

We install genuine Colorbond® fencing in a wide range of colours and profiles. Our main suppliers back it with a 10-year manufacturer's warranty. See our materials for more.

Timber fencing

Timber suits plenty of homes and gardens. We'll help you choose a style that works with your property and budget.

Fencing on retaining walls

Building a new retaining wall and fence together? We plan both as one job, so the wall is built to carry the fence properly and everything lines up. See our retaining walls.

Council rules for fences

While each council region has slightly different requirements, across Queensland these are generally the standard rules for residential fences:

  • Maximum height: fences up to 2.0 metres above natural ground level don't need building approval, provided they aren't near a pool, corner or waterfront setback. Fences over 2.0 metres need building approval from a private certifier.
  • Front fences: front boundaries are usually restricted to lower heights (often around 1.2 metres for solid styles) or need to stay visually open, such as slats or pickets, so the street can see through.
  • Corner lots: fences near driveways and corners must follow "sight triangle" rules, often capped at around 1.0 metre, so drivers can see pedestrians and traffic.
  • Waterfront and canal lots: properties near canals or waterways have strict setback rules and revetment wall guidelines, so fences over 1.2 metres in a waterfront setback area may need a permit.

We'll let you know whether approval is commonly needed for your fence before any work begins.

How we build a Colorbond fence

Diagram of a Colorbond fence: Colorbond panels, C posts between panels set in concrete footings, 50 x 50 end posts, top and bottom rails, an optional sleeper under the panels for uneven ground, a standard height of 1.8 m, and a note that over 2 m combined height requires council approval

What to expect

Our process

Every fencing and retaining wall job follows the same general sequence, broken into three stages. Most standard jobs take approximately 3–5 working days, but timing depends on the size of the job, site access, ground conditions and weather.

  1. Stage 1

Demolition, site preparation & material delivery

We remove existing fence or wall materials where applicable, clear the construction line, complete the required excavation and site preparation, and deliver project materials to site. A Dial Before You Dig check is completed before excavation begins.

  2. Stage 2

    Posts, footings & installation

We set posts and footings and start installing the fencing, sleepers or other structural components for your project.

  3. Stage 3

    Completion & handover

We complete the remaining installation and finishing work, tidy the site, and do a final walkthrough and handover with you.

Bigger or more complex jobs, such as long runs, steep or tight access, or additional excavation, often take longer. Ground conditions (rock, tree roots) and weather can also affect timing; see Scheduling & Weather in our terms and conditions. Read our terms and conditions.
